Business recruiter Kris Holt: We went poachin' in Oregon and brought back some dinner!
Business recruiter Kris Holt says he and Carson City contractor Tom Metcalf "went poaching" in Oregon last week and announced they are bringing back 160 new jobs for the Silver State. And that there will be many more new jobs to follow.
Holt, Executive Director of Nevada Business Connections, said he and Metcalf visited numerous Oregon cities on their business recruitment journey, including Eugene and Portland. He told CarsonNow.org that the Oregon business community is still riled up over Oregon voters passing Measures 65 and 66 in January, which raised personal income and corporate taxes to plug an $800 million hole in the state budget. (Increases on persons earning more than $125,000/year and increasing minimum corporate filings from $50 to $150 per year). Holt says higher electricity rates are also a problem for Oregon businesses.
Holt says they have firm relocation commitments from two Oregon firms. One is a medical research and development company with 10 employees that will probably relocate to Reno. Holt said the company has huge expansion potential. The other commitment comes from a telemarketing company that will relocated to either Carson City or Minden. Holt says the company, with 150 employees, expects to triple in size in the next few years.
Holt said as he and Metcalf traveled up and down Interstate 5 from Medford to Portland, they were interviewed on a number of Oregon TV and radio stations. During those interviews and call-in shows, Holt said he and Metcalf learned that there are many disgruntled Oregon business owners who are looking for a lower-tax state, like Nevada. Holt says they'll be plying the freeways and byways of Oregon giving those businesses the "scoop" on Nevada and enticing them to "head south."
