Making Connections: Capitol FFA Thrives at Summer Leadership Camp, Connecting with FFA Chapters Statewide
This June, nine Carson High School Capitol FFA chapter members, including five newly instated FFA officers, recently embarked on an enriching week at the Nevada State 4-H camp for their yearly Summer Leadership Camp. Set against the beauty of Lake Tahoe, the Capitol chapter, along with other FFA chapters from across the state of Nevada, engaged in teambuilding games, leadership workshops, and a formal banquet, all contributing to establishing lasting connections and meaningful relationships.
With a focus on the theme of "Making Connections" this year's summer leadership camp aimed to cultivate strong bonds among young agricultural enthusiasts while also focusing on leadership. The Capitol FFA team happily embraced the activities designed to enhance their leadership skills and make connections.
The chapters participated in Tahoe extreme bonding games such as tug of war, timed relay activities, and an enthralling egg-toss game.
The camp also provided a platform for officers and members to expand their horizons through thought-provoking leadership workshops. Led by past Nevada FFA state officers, these sessions covered topics such as connecting with agriculture, connecting with others, and connecting with values. Through interactive exercises and discussions, the chapters gained valuable insights into ways to apply leadership principles in their personal and professional lives and benefit their communities and chapter.
One of the highlights of the week was the highly anticipated banquet, where FFA members had the privilege of sharing a meal with the Nevada Department of Agriculture Director Dr. J.J. Goicoechea against the picturesque backdrop of Lake Tahoe. Dr. Goicoechea spoke about how the youth of Nevada are the future. He focused on how youth participation in legislation and leadership is the only way agriculture will be represented in the times to come.
Beyond the activities and personal growth, the youth also had the opportunity to appreciate the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe. They spent their free time swimming in Lake Tahoe and enjoying the warm sunlight. Along with these activities, the chapter participated in meetings where they discussed the future of Carson High School’s FFA program.
Reflecting on the transformative week, Lauren Davis, a member of Capitol FFA, expressed, "Well I thought camp was a great experience. I learned so much while still having fun and making new friends. Even though I didn't win Tahoe Extreme this year, I'm still proud of the efforts my team and I put in. I can't wait to attend next year's camp and what it has to hold."
Summer Leadership Camp was a resounding success for the Capitol FFA members. Equipped with newfound knowledge, strengthened relationships, and a renewed connection with agriculture, these young leaders are now ready to make a difference within their chapter and in their wider community.
Capitol FFA members departed the Nevada State 4-H camp, carrying cherished memories and a commitment to lasting connections. Their transformative experiences will fuel their dedication to agriculture and empower them to make a positive impact in their communities.
