Capital City Arts Initiative features 'From the Heart' exhibition at Carson City Community Center
Inspired by her own enthusiasm and current social issues, Ubon Edmond’s painting exhibition, "From the Heart" presents a colorful look at her world both real and imaginary.
Edmonds’ show will be in the Carson City Community Center’s Crowell Board Room, from October 24, 2022 through February 23, 2023. Capital City Arts Initiative will host a reception for the artist on Wednesday, November 2, 5:00 – 6:30PM with an artist introduction at 5:30PM. The Community Center is located at 851 E William Street, Carson City. The Crowell Board Room is open for all the city’s public meetings.
Edmonds said, “I’m a self-taught artist born in Thailand, raised in California, and I moved to Carson City in 2007.” She has wide-ranging subject matters from an extra-terrestrial moon landing to tranquil water scenes. Her narrative paintings have a bright palette that help capture viewers’ attention. She also demonstrates a sly sense of humor in the Nevada Governor’s Mansion Halloween extravaganza and in her composition of a pink luxury vehicle.
She recalled that when her dad would turn off the light at bedtime, she would vividly see so many things that she wanted as a child. She would grab these vivid imaginary images and stuff them into her pillowcase every night. She remembers thinking, “I will get all these things and play with them the next day.”
Ubon is driven by her love of the visual arts. Her urban scenes and landscapes provide views of familiar and imaginary scenes. She has been drawing and painting since she was four years old. Edmonds attended Mt. San Jacinto College in Riverside County, CA. She said, “My work often relates to the beautiful blue planet we live in.”
