Ronni Hannaman files for Supervisor Ward 2 in Carson City

Today, Ronni Hannaman has filed for the Carson City Supervisor seat in Ward 2 to be vacated by Supervisor Brad Bonkowski who has elected not to run for reelection.

A resident since late 1998, Ms. Hannaman has been an active participant in the community. She was one of the first business owners when Telegraph Square was dedicated in 1999 and then after the downturn of the economy after 911, she operated her own communications business before being asked to take the helm of the Carson City Chamber of Commerce in 2006.

As executive director of the Chamber, she has worked with leaders within the business community and city government to assist in positive and managed growth. She has served on two major governmental citizens committees and has served twice as the chair of the Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee.

Through her efforts, the antiquated signage in front of the Community Center was replaced by a LED sign and the Community Center lobby received new lighting and monies for future refresh. The benches seen throughout the downtown core was another successfully completed project allowing citizens to sponsor benches so the city could use the money for other redevelopment needs in the downtown. She also was instrumental in advancing the cause of creating a public gathering place – now McFadden Plaza. The annual Silver & Snowflakes Festival of Lights is coordinated under her direction and has grown substantially.

Under her watch, the Chamber finances have grown allowing the purchase and full remodel of the building at 1900 S. Carson Street. As a fiscal conservative, many new projects have been successfully instituted at the Chamber and, today, the finances of the Chamber are secure.

As supervisor, she hopes to be able to continue the momentum begun under the direction of Mayor Robert Crowell seeking controlled growth that would not impact existing government services yet is instrumental to a thriving community. She understands the needs of the important business community and how important businesses are in providing quality of life for residents and keeping tax dollars within the community. She believes strongly the condition of our roads spell out our economic prosperity and hopes to work with staff and other elected officials to come to a solution to be able to maintain our roads. Further, keeping our public assets in good working order and not defraying maintenance should be a major goal that may reduce the need for continued taxation to always play “catch up.” Her focus has always been on a safe community and she has closely worked with the Office of the Sheriff to create citizen awareness programs. As chairman of a citizen’s committee she believes strongly in public outreach to allow citizens the right to comment on the management of their city.

Carson City faces many of the same issues identified nationwide and worldwide such as affordable housing, homelessness, lack of adequate school funding, emergency preparedness and more that must be addressed locally but is not an easy fix without state and national input.

Attracting new businesses is very important to any community, especially Carson City, and Ms. Hannaman hopes to be instrumental in growing the environmentally friendly tourism industry that will bring in new taxes and enhance our quality of life while offering new and interesting job opportunities.

Ms. Hannaman has always worked within the governmental arena and has led several membership organizations allowing her the experience of working with many types of individuals to come to common goals. This will be her first time seeking elected office.
