Carson City arrests: Man jailed for allegedly stomping on phone when victim tried to call 911
A 56-year-old man was arrested Monday for suspicion of felony preventing a victim from calling 911, gross misdemeanor false imprisonment and misdemeanor obstructing a police officer, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
During the investigation deputies learned the suspect, Joseph Alphonse Dobrinski, was intoxicated and became upset when the surge protector caused his television to not turn on. He grew angry with the victim, who stated she attempted find a surge protector and then attempting to leave before things "got out of hand."
However as she tried to leave through the front door she said the man got in front of the door and locked it preventing her from leaving and pushed her. She stated when she pulled out her cell phone and attempted to call 911, the man grabbed the phone, threw it on the ground and stomped on it, the arrest report states.
She said she was able to grab her purse and rush out a sliding door, and rushed to her mother's apartment where she was able to call 911, the report states.
Deputies observed the suspect in front of the apartment, who began yelling profanities. The man refused multiple orders to come speak with the deputy and then ran into the apartment. The deputy gave multiple loud and lawful orders to come out side, however the man refused. He eventually opened the door and went outside, where he was handcuffed and taken into custody at 8:05 p.m.
The report states the man was uncooperative through the investigation, and talked over the officer while speaking. He was read his Miranda warning, and again became uncooperative, calling the deputy a vulgar name, the report states. Bail: $7,912.
In other arrests:
— A 30-year-old woman was arrested Saturday for suspicion felony child abuse and neglect, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report. Hannah Marie Taylor was arrested at 2:33 p.m. She was also booked for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a residence for domestic battery. When deputies arrived on scene they observed a juvenile, in hysterics, and asked him what happened. The juvenile said his mother beat him up, the report states.
The deputy noticed fresh scratches and redness on his face. An ambulance was called. The juvenile was evaluated for injuries and taken to Carson Tahoe Hospital for further evaluation. A deputy spoke with the juvenile, observed he was clearly "shook up" and had difficulty speaking because he was crying. He relayed information to the deputy about what happened and the physical confrontation involving his mother who is alleged to have pulled his hair, scratched and sat on him, according to the report.
During the investigation, a deputy observed the suspect's youngest son in the front yard of the apartment who was left unattended. He was not wearing pants and there was not any adults around to watch over him.
The woman was arrested for suspicion of child abuse and neglect. Family members arrived on scene and advised they would watch the children at the residence. Bail: $20,000.
— A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 3:26 a.m. for suspicion of DUI and driving on a suspended license.
According to the booking report, a deputy observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed past North Carson Street and Proctor. The deputy followed the vehicle and determined it was traveling 35 mph in a 25 mph speed zone. The officer conducted a traffic stop after following the vehicle for several blocks doing the same speed.
The deputy spoke with the driver and informed him of the reason for the traffic stop. The deputy could smell an odor of alcohol coming from his person and asked him if had been drinking. He replied yes. He had slurred speech while answering questions and had red watery eyes. He agreed standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment on the tests. He provided a preliminary breath test of .143 and was arrested. He agreed to an evidentiary blood draw. Bail: $1,774.
— A 54-year-old man was arrested August 19 for misdemeanor suspicion of violation of bail conditions and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $4,137.
— A 19-year-old man, Michael Fulkerson, was arrested for a felony warrant alleging possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $2,500.
— A 33-year-old Dayton woman, Alexandra Rose Lyell, was arrested Sunday for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Total bail amount listed: $8,637.
