The Brewery Arts Center hosts a female version of "The Odd Couple." Carson City's Greenhouse Project is hosting a lunch and dinner fundraiser toward a healthier State Capitol. Dale Poune will perform at Bella Vita Bistro, plus comedy at the Carson Nugget, the Nevada Caucus on Saturday, an open house at the historic Foreman-Roberts House, a Latin-themed concert at the community center and more. When half the cast of “Murder on the Oriental Rug” bails out, the remaining performers are stuck playing all the roles. During the first act, you’ll meet a Shakespearean actor with a drinking problem, a washed-up former child star, a bimbo with a short memory, and a hapless costumer who finds herself onstage — playing a man.

Activities around the capital city region are lined up through the day and evening. Enjoy and celebrate as we prepare to toast a welcome to 2020. Events around the Carson City area include a driver's education class offered through Western Nevada College Continuing Education, a luncheon featuring Patricia Ackerman, a Democratic primary candidate for Nevada's 2nd Congressional District, art activities and more.

Keep your fingers crossed that the storm front brings some precipitation our way. One place it’s seasonally appropriate is the Nevada Artist Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Center. They will be hosting an artists’ reception for their new Winter Art Show Saturday evening.

Wild West Murder Mystery theater train and barbecue aboard historic V&T July 18 and Aug. 15
Submitted by editor on Thu, 07/03/2014 - 2:01pmHijinks on the Comstock with a twist comes to Carson City this summer with "Where is the Gold?" a Wild West melodrama and murder mystery dinner set aboard a vintage Virginia and Truckee Railroad steam engine train, July 18 and August 15.
"Where is the Gold?" produced by the Brewery Arts Center will entertain with plenty of Comstock legend and lore intertwined with spellbinding whodunit mystery. The audience will be invited to help the cast of characters solve the mystery of who stole the gold, and who is responsible for the death of Mr. Big.

Carson City Raiders Booster annual fundraiser and auction this Sunday at Carson Lanes
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 11/06/2013 - 8:55amThe Carson City Raiders Booster Club's annual fundraiser and auction is this coming Sunday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Carson Lanes Eleventh Frame Lounge, 4600 Snyder Avenue.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to purchase Christmas gifts for 20 homebound seniors in the community (our list of seniors and their modest wish lists are supplied to us by the Meals on Wheels program).
Each year our members shop, wrap, deliver and visit each home bound senior on our list. It's always a heart-warming experience to help make these seniors' holidays more merrier.

Outdoors with Don Q: Having fun on Amtrak to Sacramento
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 01/24/2013 - 3:42pmFour, fun-loving people from this area spent last Friday, Saturday and Sunday on an Amtrak train trip to and from Sacramento, Calif. Those four individuals were Bob “Slick” and Lynda McCulloch, plus Elaine and I, all of Carson City.
The purpose of this trip was to take a leisurely train ride on Friday over Donner Summit, so we could see and photograph the deep winter snow along the way in the high country, and then have two days of fun in Sacto.
It was a fun-filled three days, and here are some highlights of our adventure:

Enjoy an eclectic mix of acoustic music that includes favorite folk tunes and songs like Celtic, Appalacian, Cowboy and Popular songs including some done by the Beach Boys, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Johnnie Cash and more. Grandma Hattie's is a full service restaurant, so you can make this your dinner show and sing or dance along, too. This event is family and kid friendly, so bring the whole family. Folk music night has been a regular monthly event in in Carson City since 2003.

Submitted by admin on Thu, 04/05/2012 - 7:24amElaine and I just returned home from a special way to celebrate a special occasion. March 30 was our 10th wedding anniversary and we had wanted to do something out of the ordinary for that event.
When we were married 10 years ago, we took a 19 day honeymoon in Southeast Asia, which included Hong Kong, China; Singapore, Malaysia; Bangkok, Thailand; and the last eight days at Bali, Indonesia.
Most interesting, we took my new mother-in-law, Mary Bottoms, with us!
I bet that very few of you took your mother-in-law on your honeymoon!

The performance is called "Eat, Drink & Be Murdered!"
