Santa Train at Nevada Railroad Museum delights families Nov. 30, Dec. 1, 14-15

The historic and picturesque V&T Railway steam locomotive No. 25 pulls Santa Train, departing Carson City’s Wabuska Depot at the corner of Fairview Drive and Carson Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. All seats are $3 and children 3 and younger are free. Tickets are available at the depot on days the train operates.

Normally operated only on summer holiday weekends and for Santa Train, the historic and picturesque locomotive will pull the train, giving visitors a rare opportunity to ride the rails and photograph the equipment in fall splendor.

Military Aircraft and Vehicle Museum to Open in Carson City

Cactus Air Force’s “Wings and Wheels Museum” will be a nonprofit, public museum dedicated to celebrating aviation and military history through preserving, restoring, displaying and use of US military aircraft and vehicles from WWII to present.
Michael Makley discusses Lake Tahoe history at Nevada State Museum Feb. 28

Makley brings the region’s many dimensions to life. The noted local author is the featured speaker at the February Frances Humphrey lecture series from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City, where he will explore the geology and natural history of Lake Tahoe and the people who shaped its history.
Santa Train Fun for Families Dec. 1,2,15,16 at Nevada State Railroad Museum
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 11/05/2012 - 4:51pmSanta Claus will make an express run on the Nevada State Railroad Museum’s steam train pulled by V&T Railway locomotive No. 25 on two December weekends. The museum’s Santa Train departs Carson City’s Wabuska Depot at the corner of Fairview Drive and U.S. 395 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 1 and 2 and again on Dec. 15 and 16.
Trains run continuously throughout the day, sun, rain or snow. Each Santa Train trip leaves the depot as soon as Santa and passengers have boarded. Tickets are $3 per seat and available at the depot.

Nevada State Railroad Museum gears up for July 4

Visitors can ride a train pulled by steam locomotive No. 25 Saturday, June 30 through Tuesday, July 3, and photograph significant cars on special outdoor display including the fully restored McKeen motor car. On the Fourth of July, the rare McKeen motor car will operate on the rails offering passengers rides all day.

Ellison presents a lecture, Long Beard: Warren Wasson, Indian Agent & U.S. Marshall, at the Nevada State Museum Thursday, June 23, 2011, from 7:00 – 8:00 pm. The lecture is based on Ellison’s book, Long Beard: Warren Wasson, Nevada Pioneer, Indian Agent, U.S. Marshall, Inventor, and Enigma, published by Hot Springs Mountain Press, Minden, Nevada. A limited number of books are available through the Museum Store. Robert Ellison is a resident of Carson Valley, an area rich in history.
Historian Richard Moreno speaks

Mr. Moreno's new book, "A Short History of Carson City" was just released from the University of Nevada Press and will be available for purchase through the Museum Store. Mr. Moreno will be on hand to sign books beginning at 6 p.m. with the lecture beginning at 7 p.m.

Today through Saturday is National Coin Week and the Nevada State Museum and Reno Coin Club will celebrate the occasion with events culminating on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum.
The 87th annual National Coin Week, will celebrate coin and currency collecting with the theme, “Beautiful Places: Landmarks and Mintmarks.” The Nevada State Museum and the Reno Coin Club, both members of the American Numismatic Association, have several events lined up for the day.
