CASA of Carson City received an early holiday gift from Casey Neilon, an accounting firm with offices in Reno and Carson City, in the form of a sizeable donation.

The Carson City School District’s Board of Trustees is pleased to announce nine student winners of the 19th Annual American Citizen Essay Contest. Each winner will be recognized at the school board meeting Tuesday, Nov. 24, and will received the following cash prizes: First Place: $80, Second Place: $30 and Third Place: $15. Reno has been presenting TubaChristmas performances since 1989 and the organizers aren't going to let a little global pandemic stop their fun this year! They invite tuba, euphonium, and baritone horn players of all ages to join virtual Reno TubaChristmas 2020.

Carson High School's NJROTC Drill and Color Guard team competed in their first ever ‘virtual’ drill competition hosted by University of North Carolina ROTC program. The various teams’ performances were captured on video and sent to the University for judging.

Even the Grinch is distressed as the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights becomes another casualty joining all the Carson City signature events cancelled since March 2020 due to the pandemic.

If this hater of everything Christmas is distressed, you can just imagine how sad all those who love this Carson City tradition will be.

The holiday movie premieres of “Feliz NaviDAD” and “Once Upon A Main Street” on Saturday will feature different venues in Carson City. Reimagining learning, the Carson City Library is bringing robotics technology and engineering to Carson City middle school students in 2021. Utilizing analog and digital learning, students will build components of a bionic fish, elephant, and chameleon over the 3-day Bionics Camps designed to encourage STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) related career exploration and development.

The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation, is pleased to announce mini and department grant winners for Fall 2020. Each semester, CCSF gives back to educators and students alike. This last semester, the foundation awarded $200 mini-grants as well as up to $2,000 grants for a department, school or grade-level projects.

Education Support Professionals consist of Secretaries, Administrative Assistants, Clinical Aides, Bus Attendants, Custodians, Maintenance Workers, Paraprofessionals (teacher’s aides), Bus Drivers, Kitchen/Nutrition Workers, Nurses, Library Media Technicians, and IT workers.

Addressing a need that was revealed during a 2020 student survey, Western Nevada College is nearing completion of a Food and Hygiene Pantry for students and their families.

The official results from Carson City are in, and every last viable ballot has been counted and added. The election brought out 78 percent of Carson City voters who turned out to cast their ballots.

Carson City was abuzz this summer after our beautiful streets became something of a winter wonderland, thanks to not one but two different Lifetime Network movies deciding to feature our town in their films!

"Feliz NaviDAD" and "Once Upon a Main Street" filmed in various locations around Carson City and in Douglas County and are set to premiere on Lifetime on Nov. 21 and Nov. 29, respectively.

Miramonte High School didn’t have a swimming pool, so we students got together and dug one, well, we collected enough money from the community to dig one, and the entire village turned out for the dedication.

The Carson City School District still has space available for early learners under the age of 5. Even though the academic school year is well underway, the pre-kindergarten program is still open for families who qualify under the federal household income guidelines.

Paul Donald Hochsprung, born Oct. 21, 1953, passed away at Carson Tahoe Hospital with his wife at his side on March 23, 2020, after a recent diagnosis of metastatic melanoma.
