Hello fellow anglers, it was just a few weeks ago I was planning a trip with my cousin to go to the Snake River for a fishing derby in May. So many things have changed and we all will have to adjust to make sure that we can make those plans again. Hopefully in our near future.

Stimulus Program Information

The coronavirus relief bill passed March 27 by Congress provides payments to individuals who make less than $100,000 a year. The payment total $1,200 for each adult who makes $75,000 or less, plus $500 per child. The payment amounts decrease if you make between $75,000 and $99,000. The income is determined by your latest tax return filed with the IRS. It will use your 2019 taxes if you have filed them already, or your 2018 taxes if you haven't. At this time while the state is under quarantine orders and people are starting to feel more and more stir crazy, the perfect cure is a simple one: fostering animals.

According to the Nevada Humane Society, no experience is needed to become a foster care volunteer. The most important factor a volunteer can have is a loving, safe home.

Carson City’s Leisure Hour Club recently donated $500 to KNVC community radio, 95.1 FM. The station was chosen as one of the club’s Outstanding Community Organizations earlier this year. The award was presented to Joe Bly, KNVC Program Director, at the station’s studios in Carson City.

The Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program (RSVP) has taken proactive steps and the necessary precautions to respond to the COVID-19 (novel Coronavirus) outbreak and support communities across its 15-county service region including Carson City. The most vulnerable among us rely on RSVP’s volunteer services. Given the increased risks for those we serve such as elders, veterans and adults with a disability, RSVP is limiting interaction between its volunteers and clients by shifting programs to meet the emergent needs of care recipients.

United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) announces the launch of the UWNNS Emergency Assistance Fund to support local work in helping meet the increase of basic needs by local families and individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Nevada Humane Society's shelters in Carson City and Reno are currently open and fully operational. Our primary goal right now is to reduce the number of animals housed at our shelters in an effort to avoid overcrowding should we need to restrict our services or close altogether.

YERINGTON, Nev. — The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is treating the threat of the COVID-19 virus as a serious issue. We still have a responsibility to the citizens of Lyon County to do our job. We will continue to respond to calls for service.

Heading into the first of the work week, there's some uncertainty due to concerns over the coronavirus. Some activities will go on as scheduled while others may be canceled. We're advising you check with event organizers ahead of time before you plan on attending.

Consistent with other precautionary measures in place to limit those coming to and from the hospital and other clinics, Carson Tahoe Health has suspended its volunteer operation for the time being due to the coronavirus threat.

UPDATED: When there is heightened concern around an illness, Carson Tahoe closely monitors the situation and implements enhanced infection prevention strategies, working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and local health districts, and other local healthcare providers.

The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association presents the third annual Northern Nevada CycleNation on June 4 at Reno City Plaza. The fundraiser begins at 5:30 p.m. and will include food trucks, yard games, and music. The stationary bike sunset ride begins at 6 p.m. and lasts for two hours. CycleNation is nationally sponsored by Amgen and is locally sponsored by Carson Tahoe Health.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving on the Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee.

According to Shannon Cord with the Carson City Historical Society, the historic Adele’s building will not be saved despite the efforts of many volunteers and contributors.

The historic building suffered a fire in 2019 that, due to smoke damage and insurance issues, was not able to be recovered. It was set for demolition, until a group of activists form the Carson City Historical Society sought to save the building and have it moved to a new location.

The Foundation for Carson City Parks & Recreation, in conjunction with the Carson City Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Department, periodically recognizes, through their “Community Awards” deserving individuals, organizations, and businesses for outstanding contributions made to further the combined missions of the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation and the Carson City Department of Parks, Recreation, and Open Space.

Just like all of the other seniors here at the school, I am working on my Senior Project, a graduation requirement, in order to benefit not only myself but also those animals in the community who need a home.

Each year, CVS employees volunteer thousands of hours to nonprofit organizations in their communities. Joanne Dwyer, Director of the CVS Health Foundation, states that the CVS Health Foundation awards grants which supports these efforts and provides additional financial support to the causes supported by CVS employees. Grants, which range from $500 to $5,000, are awarded directly to the organization on the CVS employee’s behalf.

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Carson City Nevada Triad presents Scams Targeting Older Adults a presentation designed to educate you on the current trends in frauds and scams and learn how to not fall victim to their ploys. The event will take place in the Joshua Tree Room at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Tuesday, March 3 from 1 to 2 p.m.

Each year, National Read Across America Day is observed on March 2, the birthday of children’s book author Ted Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss. In celebration, many schools often dedicate an entire week as “Reading Week.” In Carson City, grade-schoolers at Fremont Elementary School got to celebrate a week prior to the observance with several community partners and local dignitaries, who visited classrooms to read to students.

Precinct organization comes from people who live in your neighborhood. They are volunteer activists. They work diligently to know your concerns; they promote your issues and concerns to your local and state elected officials.

Nevada Commission for Women and the Nevada Women’s Suffrage Celebration Committee formed to help facilitate collaboration among organizations in Nevada to celebrate and commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. As part of her Carson High School Senior Project graduation requirement, student, and committee member, Chloe Walt is working to educate Nevadans on the suffrage movement and the historic importance of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

At its Program meeting on Wednesday, February 26, Carson City Soroptimist will feature John Malcolm, the Prevention Education Specialist for Safe Embrace, an area non-profit dedicated to educating the community and providing services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
