Girls hit their 'peak,' win second title in three years
By Dave Price
RENO — The Carson High girls took a page from their 2007 playbook on Saturday at the NIAA Cross Country Championships. And once again, the Senators hit their "peak" at just the right time.
Just like they did two years ago, the underdog Carson girls used a team effort to move up and win the 4A team championship during competition at Rancho San Rafael Park. The Senators packed four runners into the top 20 to score 58 points, followed by Arbor View (83) and South Tahoe (90) in the race for team honors.
Boys Team
After long wait, ‘motivated’ Carson’s boys are finally No. 1

RENO — Never mind that the Carson High cross country boys had not won a state team title since 1991. Motivated by runner-up finishes in their final race the last two years, the Senators ran their way to the No. 1 spot at the NIAA State Championships on Saturday.
Richard Shroy won the individual gold and the rest of his teammates took care of business as Carson outdistanced Centennial by a 49-56 score to capture the team championship on a mild and sunny day at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park.
