Carson City deputies make DUI, graffiti arrests

A 63-year-old Carson City man was arrested Jan. 18 for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and two counts resisting and obstructing, a sheriff's deputy report states.

According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to the area of South Edmonds and Koontz Lane in reference to a male possibly under the influence. He was seen stumbling around his truck with his dog and throwing beer cans out of the cab and then leaving in his pickup. A reporting party was able to provide a license plate number. Dispatch advised the plate returned to the suspect, who had 2 prior DUI arrests.

Officers canvassed the area for the truck and located it near his residence parked halfway on the curb and halfway on the street and observed the suspect in the driver's seat as well as his dog in the passenger seat.

When an officer approached the truck, the man attempted to step outside the vehicle and approach the officer aggressively, the report states. He began walking his dog toward his residence. He was told to stop and to get his dog as the dog approached aggressively.

The man began walking his dog toward the house and walked into the garage and began to close the external garage door. The officer instructed him to stay outside. The man continued to close the garage door and the officer told him to stop.

The man continued to stagger into the doorway. Not knowing of the man's intentions, the officer pulled the man out of the door way. The deputy asked why he was trying to go inside. Th man said he was trying to secure the dog, the report states. The officer asked how much alcohol he had been drinking and the man replied none. Officers observed the man wearing sunglasses and asked him to remove the glasses.

As the man spoke, his speech was thick, heavy and slurred and he had watery eyes. As the man stood in front of the officer, he swayed back and forth, the report states. The deputy could smell an overwhelming odor of alcohol coming from his person. The officer believed he was under the influence, the report states.

The officer asked the man about prior DUIs. The man said he didn't know what the officer was talking about. The man then told the officer he was going inside his house and began walking toward the garage.

The officer asked the man to stop twice but he continued walking toward the garage. The officer grabbed the man by his left arm and positioned him against a vehicle in the driveway. He was placed under arrest for two counts resisting and obstructing, and suspicion of DUI and placed into a patrol vehicle.

The man was read a request for evidentiary testing. The man advised he did not wish to speak with the officer. He was taken to jail. His Miranda warning was read to him. He advised he understood his rights and advised he did not wish to answer questions. The man also refused standardized field sobriety testing.

A search warrant for a blood draw was applied for and granted by a Carson City judge. Bail: $1,961.

In other arrests:
— An 18-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI driving without a valid license and other offenses, a sheriff's deputy report states.

According to the booking report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a vehicle crash in the 400 block of North Carson Street.

Officers learned the 18-year-old was the driver at fault, that she had an instruction driving permit only and was following too close, causing the accident.

The woman admitted to a deputy that she used marijuana. Officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, the arrest report states.

A deputy asked her how much and when was the last time she consumed marijuana. She stated she smoked the previous night and only took one hit of marijuana, the report states.

A deputy observed the woman to have glassy eyes and a light green tint on her tongue, the report states.

The officer asked the woman questions in the standardized field sobriety questionnaire. She stated she is under the care of a doctor for cancer. She stated she had hit her head on the steering wheel during the vehicle accident. The officer did not observe any marks on her head indicating she had hit her head, the report states.

During the questionnaire, she stated she used "dabs" for the type of marijuana she used. Dabs are a concentrated form of marijuana, the report states.

The woman stated during the instruction phase of the tests that her chemotherapy treatments for cancer had affected her balance and she going to physical therapy for it. She stated her chemotherapy treatments ended in 2019, the report states.

During the tests, the woman show signs of impairment, the report states. Based on the officer's observations, the clues of impairment during the field sobriety tests and her admission to using marijuana, the officer arrested her for suspicion of DUI.

Because of the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, the officer searched it for any marijuana or paraphernalia and located multiple marijuana storage bags, a glass marijuana storage container, a broken marijuana pipe and a used marijuana vape cartridge, the report states.

At jail she submitted to a evidentiary blood test. She was booked for suspicion of DUI, driving without a valid license, following too close and possession fo drug paraphernalia. Total bail amount listed: $2,613.

— An 18-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday for misdemeanor suspicion of violation of a temporary protection order and misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence. Bail amounted listed: $4,137.

— A 28-year-old man was arrested Jan. 18 for misdemeanor suspicion of graffiti. According to the arrest report, deputies were advised of a man drawing graffiti on a business in the 1400 block of East William Street.
The suspect allegedly wrote a swear word on the door of a business, then wrote his first name and then crossed out the name, the report states. Bail: $622.

On May 18, 2024, at about 0050 hours, Carson City Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle
driven by Christopher Gorham. A drug-detection canine was used to conduct a sniff of the vehicle. Deputies searched the vehicle and located drug paraphernalia along with an explosive device.

An 1884 Carson City Morgan silver dollar donated by Northern Nevada Coin is being raffled by the Friends of the Nevada State Museum. A 63-year-old housekeeper was arrested Thursday for 14 counts of credit card fraud and other offenses after allegedly stealing a credit card belonging to an 86-year-old patient who family members said was being treated for a stroke at a local care facility, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office detective.

On May 15th, 2024, shortly after midnight, deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on the 600 block of Angela Street in Fernley, Nev., reference a caller who reported that he had murdered his mother. The caller additionally provided that he barricaded himself inside the house, was armed with a rifle, and had planted pipe bombs at the residence.
