2nd ANNUAL YOUTH TRANSITION SUMMIT A SUCCESS!
Family TIES of Nevada held its 2nd Youth Transition Summit – Youth Transition Jamboree March 17-18, 2011 at UNLV which was a huge success as family members, youth and professionals gathered to learn more about employment, education and health care support for youth with special health care needs and disabilities. Participants gained an understanding of how and why the health needs of youth can and should be addressed right along with their vocational and educational needs to assure a successful transition from pediatric to adult health care, school to work, and home to community.
According to Mallory Cyr, National Youth Program Manager, National HealthCare Transition Center Maine Children Special Health Needs Program: “I was honored to be a part of the Transition Jamboree, and I am excited to watch it grow as an annual event! You have a truly incredible group of people working for Family TIES, and it is clear how passionate you all are about improving lives and transition outcome for Nevada’s young people with special healthcare needs and disabilities. I have been to lots of conferences over the past few years, but after sharing that couple of days with all of you, Nevada will always have a special place in my heart.”
Family TIES would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the many speakers, volunteers, and exhibitors for supporting the event, and the following sponsors: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration/ Maternal and Child Health Bureau, AmeriGroup Community Care, Nevada Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities, and the Nevada Center for Excellence in Disabilities.
