Lineup for Brewery Arts Center's free summer concert series

The Brewery Arts Center (BAC) in downtown Carson City will be hosting a free summer concert series this year, sponsored by the Mortimer and Mimi Levitt Foundation.

Through the efforts of the BAC, Carson City was one of 15 cities nationwide awarded the concert series for 2016.

The Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series kicks off June 4 and will run every Saturday evening through August 6 with live music starting at 7 p.m. along Minnesota Street next to the BAC. The 10-week music series will include one Friday night show on June 17.

The concert series is free and open to the public.

A $25,000 matching grant from the Mortimer and Mimi Levitt Foundation, a private family foundation supporting the largest free outdoor concert series in America, is funding the summer music event.

June 4: Mumbo Gumbo
For over 25 years, Mumbo Gumbo has been one of Northern California's top groups, releasing nine original music CDs and collecting numerous "Sammie" and "Best of Sacramento" awards. The seven-piece band tours the western United States, bringing their "genre-bending Americana" music to their many fans. Their big musical stew contains elements of soul, zydeco, folk, blues, rock, cajun, Carribean, and country all mixed into their uniquely festive roots-music sound.

June 11: Incendio
Formed in the summer of 1999 by Jim Stubblefield, Jean-Pierre Durand and Liza Carbé, Incendio (which means "fire" in Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish) became a vehicle for the influences and compositional talents of the three musicians. Echoes of music ranging from classical, to jazz, to rock, to flamenco, to Celtic, to even bluegrass can be heard in Incendio's music. It is no surprise that this eclectic blend of influences has led to a sound that is a truly unique one.

June 17: The Hold Up (Friday night show)
The Hold Up is an American band from San Jose, CA . Their music incorporates elements of reggae, hip-hop, pop, and indie. After a successful first album, The Holdup went back into the studio to create their sophomore record, Confidence in 2010. The song "Faster" adds a hip-hop style by incorporating an up-tempo beat and quick delivery by vocalist Garmany. "Motion" is an acoustic sound with heartfelt lyrics, providing musical diversity to the album. Confidence debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes Reggae Charts and earned the band the award of iTunes Best New Reggae Artist of 2010.

June 25: Terceto Kali with the Jason McGuire Trio
This groundbreaking musical trio seamlessly blends flamenco, Latin, and jazz in music and dance with a cast of world-class artists from around the country who are rooted in a variety of musical genres. Lead by virtuoso, award-winning flamenco guitarist Jason McGuire, "El Rubio," these three musicians take you on a musical journey that is undeniably an experience of incredible showmanship and passion that has ignited audiences ever since their debut in 2014. With powerful musical direction fueled by Jason McGuire's inspirational compositions, they have shown they can play both jazz clubs and concert halls while maintaining the essence and improvisational quality of both a flamenco or a jazz group. With Jason on guitar, Marlon Aldana on drumset and cajon, and Paul Martin Sounder on upright bass, the group has already been nominated for a prestigious Bay Area Izzie Award for Best Ensemble.

July 2: Doubleheader with Sierra Sweethearts and Southwestern Pilgrimage
The Sierra Sweethearts, play some bluegrass, some classic country, and a lot of fun.
Southwestern Pilgrimage was born out of years of friendship in the Dallas-based band, "Young Country," old friends come together again, as Southwestern Pilgrimage. The group takes its original material and combines it with songs from some of the best songwriters in the Southwest, embellishing them with tight vocal harmonies and unique instrumental interpretations. With songs about wide open spaces, rivers, romance and legends of the west, they represent all that is good in American music.

July 9: Dangermuffin
Easy, breezy melodies and soul-shaking grooves radiate from this genre-bending roots trio. Dangermuffin brings thoughtful tunes that are both heartfelt and truthful. Their haunting harmonies and go-with-the-flow vibe invite listeners to kick back, relax, and be consumed by the ethereal rhythmic backbone and inspiring messages Dangermuffin has to offer. Lyrically, they evoke themes of self-discovery, ancient knowledge, and true awareness, all within a unique and casual approach.

July 16: Prezident Brown
Prezident Brown (Fitz Cotterell) was born in the hills of Clarendon, Jamaica. His mother called him Junior Ranking because he would grab the microphone and chant at schoolyard and country dances. He was first known as Slim Brown because of his resemblance to and similar DJ style to his mentor, U Brown. The most formative influence on Prezident Brown was producer and sound system operator Jack Ruby. Ruby saw something special in young Slim Brown, taking him under his wing, re-named him Prezident Brown and appointed him resident M.C. of his Hi-Power Sound System, traveling worldwide.

July 23: Southern Drawl Band
Sweating out their own brand of rockin' country music distilled in the backwoods of Tennessee, Southern Drawl Band has been relentlessly touring the U.S. from coast to coast since it's beginnings in 2012. Aggressively playing over 200 shows a year to sold out crowds of fiercely loyal fans and "tirelessly building our grass roots fan base from the ground up is the key to our success," says Mike Nash, frontman and guitarist for the band. "We have been honored to have won several awards for Band of the Year as well as Entertainer of the Year because of the support of our incredible fans who will regularly drive hundreds of miles for our shows and who have spread our message like wild fire."

July 30: Whitney Myer
Whitney Myer is a soul singer gone rogue. Teasing the lines of RnB and Rock n Roll, her electrifying live performances mesmerize audiences and have earned her featured appearances at Lightning in a Bottle, The Bounce Festival, and SXSW. Drawing inspiration from musicians like Prince, Little Dragon and Bjork, Whitney Myer has shared the stage with the likes of Allen Stone, DEV, and Fitz And The Tantrums.

August 6: SambaDá
Dubbed the West Coast's hottest Brazilian band by promoters, journalists and fans, SambaDá musically unites the Americas. Based in the rich musical traditions of Brazil, SambaDá also references salsa and cumbia, and blends them playfully with funk and reggae beats. Brazilian natives Papiba Godinho and Dandha da Hora bring profound knowledge and respect for Brazilian music, and together with the entire band, they present a unique musical sound with a universal appeal.
