COVID-19 cases increase in Carson City area, but remain far below January surge

Nevada, like many areas across the nation, is experiencing an uptick in COVID-19 cases. The increase in cases is not comparable to the surges seen in January, which had new daily case averages of more than 6,000 statewide.
But cases have increased from the new daily case average of 140 in the first week of April to more than 800 in the first week of June, according to data from Nevada Health Response.
Since the beginning of COVID-19 tracking in Nevada, there have been nearly 660,000 total cumulative confirmed cases and nearly 11,000 deaths. Here is a look at the current case trends, hospitalizations and more.
Carson City
There are currently 9 new daily confirmed cases, and 9 individuals are hospitalized from COVID-19 in Carson City, with 1 individual in the ICU and 1 ventilator in use.
74 percent of the population has received their COVID-19 vaccinations.
There have been 14,378 confirmed cases in Carson City, and 219 deaths.
Douglas County
There are currently 6 new daily confirmed cases, and no individuals are hospitalized in Douglas County from COVID-19.
65 percent of the population has received their COVID-19 vaccinations.
There have been 6,966 confirmed cases in Douglas County and 92 deaths.
Lyon County
There are currently 9 new daily confirmed cases, and no individuals are hospitalized in Lyon County.
59 percent of the population has received their COVID-19 vaccinations.
There have been 9,484 confirmed cases in Lyon County and 175 deaths.
Washoe County
There are currently 133 new daily confirmed cases, and 26 individuals are hospitalized from COVID-19 in Washoe County, with 4 individuals in the ICU, and 1 ventilator in use.
75 percent of the population has received their COVID-19 vaccinations.
There have been 101,134 confirmed cases in Washoe County and 1,207 deaths.
Statewide
Statewide, there are currently 773 new daily confirmed cases, and 315 individuals are hospitalized from COVID-19, with 50 individuals in the ICU, and 14 ventilators in use.
68.41 percent of the population has received their COVID-19 vaccinations.
It should be noted that there are less testing facilities available than there has been throughout the pandemic, and more individuals may be testing at home, leading to underreported case numbers. Even still, while communities are seeing upticks in cases, numbers are still far below the January surge.

Impact Health continues to provide free COVID-19 testing at the North Entrance of the Nevada State Legislative Building in Carson City on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., and Thursdays from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. (excluding holidays). Test results are provided within the same day of testing.
