Final Carson City election results: All ballots are counted; canvass of vote Friday

The final counts are in, here are the final unofficial 2024 Primary Election results from Carson City.

Mail-in ballots postmarked by election day were still being counted, which is why results have still been coming in this week. A number of mail-in ballots were also held to be processed after election day to help with voter anonymity, according to Emily Toups, Deputy Clerk of Elections.

"We always wait to run the last batches until after the deadline has passed," Toups said. "The less ballots there are to run means it's easier to (publicly) tie a voter to their vote, and since voting is anonymous in the state of Nevada we keep a couple batches with the cure batches so we have more results to report and you cannot tell who voted for who."

In order to avoid going to the general election, a candidate must receive 50 percent of the vote plus one. Final results will be officially certified during the Carson City Board of Supervisors Canvass of the Vote happening Friday, June 21.

Incumbent Angela Orr of State Board of Education District 2 narrowly missed her win with 49.35 percent of the vote, and will be headed to the polls in November against Paul "Doc" Davis who received 20.85 percent.

Of the 40,293 active voters in Carson City, 11.581 (28.74 percent) voted in the primary, the majority of which (65 percent) voted by mail, followed by early voting (18.75 percent) and finally election day (15.91 percent).

This is down slightly from the 2022 primary elections, which brought out 35 percent of active voters to the polls. During the 2022 general election, however, nearly 24,000 residents voted, reflecting 63.02 percent of active voters that year.
