Carson City and Reno add more jobs in May; unemployment rate stays the same
Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) Employment (Seasonally Adjusted):
— Carson City employment had an increase of 200 jobs (0.6%) since April, an increase of 600 jobs (1.9%) since May 2023.
— Reno employment had an increase of 1,000 jobs (0.4%) since April, an increase of 5,200 jobs (2.0%) since May 2023.
— Las Vegas employment increased by 4,600 jobs (0.4%) since April, an increase of 40,700 jobs (3.6%) since May 2023.
“Nevada continues to see a stable labor market, with employment growth down only slightly to 3.3 percent over the year while the unemployment rate remained stable at 5.1 percent and the labor force participation rate remained stable at 62.7 percent," said David Schmidt, Chief Economist. "And while employment in casino hotels remains below pre-recession levels, the broader leisure and hospitality industry is growing, with over 300,000 jobs in the Las Vegas area for the first time ever.”
