Firefighters respond to brush fire near Mound House in the Carson River Canyon area

UPDATE 2:17PM: From Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch: Firefighters stopped forward progress of the Coleman Fire at around 10 acres. Resources are in the mop-up stage.

UPDATE 1:56PM: While the Kit Kat Fire burning east of Carson City near Mound House has been contained with 2.8 acres having burned, firefighters were called to the Silver Springs, Stagecoach area for a two-acre fire, called the Coleman Fire, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. The wildfire is burning near Coleman Drive. It was reported at 1:13 p.m.

UPDATE 11:06AM: Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch reports the Kit Kat Fire is around 2.8 acres and resources will be on the fire throughout the day. There is no word yet on containment.

UPDATE 8:50 AM: Firefighters mobilized Saturday morning for a brush fire burning in the Carson River canyon area east of Carson City near Mound House in Lyon County. No structures are threatened at this time and the fire is said to be around 2 acres.

The Kit Kat Fire is being fought with brush units, hand crews and by helicopter, according to fire officials. It does not appear to be advancing rapidly.

Also on the fire are crews from Nevada Division of Forestry and the BLM.

A brush fire was reported burning east of Carson City near Mound House in Lyon County on Saturday morning, prompting a response from Lyon County firefighters as well as Carson City Fire Department.

Carson dispatchers received calls at around 7 a.m. regarding smoke in the area. Upon further investigation smoke was observed in the Mound House area off of Kit Kat Road. Lyon County fire officials were contacted where it was learned that a two-acre fire was burning north in the Carson River Canyon area.

Nearby fire agencies have been called for mutual aid and support as Lyon County and Carson City firefighters attack the fire. It is unknown at this time if any structures are threatened or whether the fire is advancing rapidly.

Meanwhile, a fire that started Friday night near Lahontan Reservoir in Churchill County has burned around 300 acres, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. The Lahontan Fire started at around 10 p.m. on the northeast side of the lake and was burning in grass and sage. The fire is being fought by BLM and the Nevada Division of Forestry. It is 80 percent contained as of Saturday morning.

A red flag warning has been issued by the national weather service for Friday, June 14 for much of western Nevada.

Two people have been found dead after the plane they were in crashed in Alpine County, south of Lake Tahoe. On June 13 at approximately 1 a.m., deputies from the Alpine County Sheriff's Office were notified of an overdue aircraft that had left Lodi, Calif. on Wednesday afternoon.

A sixteen-year-old Carson City resident is in custody following a gas station robbery Thursday night.

According to Sheriff Ken Furlong, the robbery occurred at an ExtraMile convenience store and involved a knife.
