Greenhouse Project benefit exceeds expectations
This year's A Concert Under the Stars, a fund-raiser for The Greenhouse Project has exceeded all expectations, according to Karen Abowd, project president.
"Preliminary numbers look like we raised between $32,000 and $34,000," Abowd said.
The goal had been to clear between $20 and $25,000.
The sold-out event hosted by Cafe at Adele's Wednesday, was headlined by PabloCruise and featured opening music by Jaime Kyle and The Mighty Surf Lords. Chili Bop Entertainment, co-owned by John Procaccini, long-time Carson City resident, was the event's promoter.
"There were people there I hadn't seen in ages," Abowd said. "It was a fabulous evening and everyone was dancing and having a great time and of course, it's an event that we improve every year and there will be things we do a bit differently next year."
To host a benefit event during a "down economy" and have it do so well is attributed by Abowd to several factors.
"I think when you have the right act, with the right appeal for the demographic, offer great auction items and add to that the fact that The Carson Nugget and Casino Fandango had it on their reader boards, how Charlie (Abowd) promotes things on Facebook and all the additional coverage and community support, then success follows," she said.
"The Greenhouse Project is not divisive and is something everyone in our community sees the benefit of and can get behind."
