Memorial exhibit, virtual prevention walk, music and more highlight weekend around Carson City

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Western Nevada College will host a memorial exhibit and informational presentation on the 9-11 attacks on Friday. Partnership Carson City will team up for a statewide suicide prevention virtual walk this Saturday. Along with live music and a 5K run/walk at Bob McFadden Plaza, there is plenty of excitement buzzing around the state capitol! Read on for more information.

New safety guidelines for the state of Nevada have been enforced, so please make sure to wear a mask and practice safe social distancing.

Friday, September 11
WNC hosts 9-11 events, Carson City and local church encourage visit to memorial at Mills Park (all day). On Friday, Sept. 11, exhibits and an informational presentation are planned in and outside of the Cedar Building. The information desk outside Cedar will present an exploration of what news was important to the country at 8:45 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2001, vs. what news was important to Americans a minute later at 8:46 a.m. In addition, in the middle stairwell of the Cedar Building there will be a display of various information pertaining to the attacks, the aftermath and the rebuilding process the U.S. went through. A modified exhibit will be presented on the first floor of the Cedar Building for those unable to utilize the stairwell presentation.

Reset Week Boot Camp. 5 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Kaia FIT, 3633 Research Way in Carson City. Are you ready for a reset and take back 2020? We are ready to help you crush your health and fitness goals! Our BRIK boot camp includes 6 weeks of cross-training, yoga-pilates, TRX, barre, cycle, dance, and run workouts, with guided before/after measurements, regular benchmark workouts to assess how much stronger you're getting, themed dress-up days, and more!

Carson River Canyon Railbike Tours. 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road. Visit Carson City, in partnership with the V&T Railway Commission, have announced an all-new attraction unlike any other in northern Nevada. Railbikes will run Tuesday-Sunday, four times a day 10 a.m., noon, 2p.m. and 4 p.m. Excursions are $45 per person. Tickets may be purchased online at vtrailway.com.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office hosts Tip-A-Cop event. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at CoCoMoes Qnique Eats in Gardnerville, 795 Tillman Lane. DCSO, alongside local Special Olympic athletes, are putting their serving skills to the test to help gather tips and deliver to-go orders. The sheriff’s office is asking the community to help support Special Olympics by calling orders into CoCoMoes for to-go meal pick-up.

Nevada Artists Association 2020 Summer Show. 12 to 4 p.m. at 449 W. King St. The Nevada Artists Association is excited to present the 2020 “Summer Show." This judged show represents a collection of 74 plus photographs, paintings, drawings, mixed media and 3D pieces by Nevada Artists Association members and non-members from Northern Nevada.

Dance Class at Yaple's Ballroom Dance Studio. 3 to 4 p.m. at 315 N. Carson St. Join us for some dancing! No partner needed. Learn dance steps to all Ballroom and Latin dances. A Mix of mini dance routines and line dances. Improve turns and balance. Good for anyone who is wanting to learn to dance as well as lose some weight! Class is just $10 per person or sign up for the month for $35.

Beers in the Brewery at The Union Carson. 4 to 5 p.m. 302 N. Carson St. Join us in the brewery every Friday for a free beer tasting! Come and stop by the brewery to taste a couple of our house beers and have a few small bites while we teach you what makes each of our featured beers unique and delicious!

Virtual Open Mic Night at A to Zen. 6 p.m. at 1803 N. Carson St. In light of COVID-19, A to Zen Gift Shop in Carson City is hosting a virtual open mic night every Friday at 6 p.m. Interested participants can record their performance and send the video with the link above.

Mr. Wizard Show at Bella Vita Bistro. 6:30 p.m. at 1304 S. Stewart St. Party band Mr. Wizard Show will be live at Bella Vita Bistro! Come enjoy some tasty food and live music.

One Way Street to Perform at Living the Good Life. 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. One Way Street performs at Living the Good Life on Friday. Come enjoy an outdoor dinner, drinks and appetizer show while the weather is nice! Make your reservations today! Limited party of six.

Friday Night Karaoke at the Whiskey Tavern. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at 3481 Hwy 50 E. in Carson City. Come hang out with the Whiskey Tavern and J and M Productions as we sing the night away every Friday! Must be at least 21 years old.

Saturday, September 12
Park Clean Up Day at Dayton Valley Dog Park. 7 to 10 a.m. at 15 Old Como Rd. Dayton Valley Dog Park needs your help with park clean up. We are looking for volunteers to come and help rake, pull weeds, trim trees and bushes and other things that are needed to help keep our park beautiful!

Carson City Farmer's Market. 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of 3rd and Curry St. The Carson City Farmer’s Market has returned every Saturday with fresh fruits, vegetables and much more!

Partnership Carson City teams up for statewide suicide prevention virtual walk this Saturday. 9 a.m. The memorial takes place virtually this year as a Facebook Live event. More information can be found via the link above. Partnership Carson City, inspiring a healthy community through education and prevention, is teaming up with the Nevada Coalition for Suicide Prevention and the Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention to remember those lost through suicide for the 14th annual 5K Walk in Memory, Walk for Hope.

Endless Summer Saturdays at the Pink House. 9 to 11 a.m. at 193 Genoa Lane in Genoa. With so many of our pans canceled, we’re happy to close out the summer with something new to the Pink House. Come visit us for a fun time on Saturday!

A 5K Run/Walk to Remember at Bob McFadden Plaza. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 223 W. Third St. in Carson City. Brenda Collings, and Ryan Blaver have organized a 5K walk/run in Carson City at the McFadden Plaza. The race will be held to raise awareness to Alzheimer's. All proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association. Stick around after the event for food and fun!

AAUW Membership Brunch via Zoom. 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Capital Branch of AAUW is having its annual Membership 'Brunch' this year on Saturday Sept. 12 via Zoom, instead of at the Governor's Mansion as in previous years, since that facility is closed due to the COVID-19 situation.

Picnic in the Park. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mills Park, hosted by First Christian Church Carson City. We are having our annual picnic in the park. Because of park restriction we have to limit it to 50 people and you will have to brown-bag your own food and bring your own drinks. There will be time for fellowship, games and prayer.

Coin Press Demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 600 N. Carson St. Every Saturday from 11:00 am-3:00 pm we will provide minting demonstrations in the Historic Carson City Mint Building. Witness Coin Press No. 1, a 150 year old coin press, mint .999 fine silver commemorative medallions in the same building it produced.

Meet and Greet Maurice 'Mo' White, candidate for Carson City Board of Supervisors. 4 p.m. at the Mallards Restaurant located at the Empire Ranch Golf Course, 1875 Fair Way. A Meet and Greet with Carson City Board of Supervisors Candidate Maurice "Mo" White will be held this Saturday. Special guest Jon Yuspa, Founder of Honor Flight Nevada will also be in attendance.

BAC's Flatbed Concert Series continues with New Wave Crave. 5 to 8 p.m. through the Nye, Northgate and Ronald Wood Park area. Visit the link above for more information. We will be riding through town presenting live music! Hope you’ll all join us and be on the lookout.

Sunday, September 13
Nevada Raider Nation, Carson City Chapter game watch this Sunday. 10 a.m. at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar, 301 N. Carson St. Game time is 10 a.m. Memberships may be renewed at this time; cost is $25 per person, new or renewing. Drawings will be held for Raiders swag, as well as a 'breakfast buffet.' The food is free for members, all others are asked to make a $4 donation. Jimmy G's will also offer drink specials for every game watch, you must be a member for this great perk.

Jazz and Beyond Brunch with Niall McGuinness. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Empire Ranch Golf Course, 1875 Fair Way. Outdoor brunch features Niall McGuinness and the New World Jazz Project playing soul, Latin, and world jazz music. This performance also will be live streamed on Facebook Live.

Hot Seats at Bodines Casino. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 5650 S. Carson St. Join us for an hourly Hot Seat Drawings every Sunday from 11am-7pm for a chance to win $500.00. Over the last 10 years, Catmandu has helped more than 2700 cats and kittens have a better life through rescue, adoption, education, assistance programs and a cage-free sanctuary. An 1884 Carson City Morgan silver dollar donated by Northern Nevada Coin is being raffled by the Friends of the Nevada State Museum. The raffle will highlight the Tin Cup Roundup fundraiser planned for Saturday, September 21 (5 to 8 pm). Proceeds from the raffle and the event will support the restoration of a 1967 Chevrolet pickup truck for the State Museum.

Deputies are investigating a pipe bomb that was discovered during a traffic stop early Saturday morning.

WNC will honor a record 168 graduates at graduation ceremonies on May 20 in Carson City and May 23 in Fallon.

Carson City is now accepting Letters of Intent for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) projects taking place July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025.

Ricardo Serrano Perez was sentenced to 20 years in the Nevada Department of Corrections with minimum parole eligibility of 8 years. Perez was sentenced pursuant to a guilty plea agreement whereby the parties stipulated to the maximum sentence.

Carson High Speech and Debate will be hosting the inaugural Carson High Show and Shine car show Saturday May 25th in the north parking lot of CHS from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A 63-year-old housekeeper was arrested Thursday for 14 counts of credit card fraud and other offenses after allegedly stealing a credit card belonging to an 86-year-old patient who family members said was being treated for a stroke at a local care facility, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office detective.

On May 15th, 2024, shortly after midnight, deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on the 600 block of Angela Street in Fernley, Nev., reference a caller who reported that he had murdered his mother. The caller additionally provided that he barricaded himself inside the house, was armed with a rifle, and had planted pipe bombs at the residence.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and as part of that, Partnership Carson City (PCC) and OSP Northern Nevada are holding a workshop focused on suicide prevention training.
