Vote Now: Carson City's Greenhouse Project competes in foundation's Power of Good Giveaway
The Greenhouse Project in Carson City, a nonprofit teaching facility at Carson High School that provides youth education and vocational opportunities, is participating in the Power of Good Giveaway through the NV Energy Foundation and is asking locals to vote Tuesday through Friday.
The Greenhouse Project hopes to use money from the Power of Good Giveaway to purchase multi-tiered shelving to take advantage of vertical space in the greenhouse and to upgrade the electrical system to support grow lights for each shelf.
A total of 60 eligible nonprofits have entered for a chance to win $30,000 statewide, $15,000 in northern Nevada and $15,000 in southern Nevada.
These organizations competing, such as Carson City’s The Greenhouse Project, provide valuable services and programs that support environmental sustainability and stewardship, and foster and protect restoration of wildlife and natural resources in our service territories.
Participants can vote once per day, Tuesday, Sept. 25 through Friday, Sept. 28. Winners will be announced no later than Oct. 5.

The Greenhouse Project serves as a teaching facility for hands-on training programs that emphasize environmental stewardship, the importance of outdoor activity, civic engagement and academic achievement.
Through these programs, staff, students and volunteers cultivate and distribute vegetables for school culinary classes and local food banks and will produce flower baskets for the downtown Carson City corridor.
High school classes and special projects provide youth educational and vocational opportunities, The Greenhouse Project serves the needs of Carson's low-income community by increasing access to fresher, more nutritious food supplies.
The project also promotes revitalization of Carson City's downtown commercial corridor by enhancing its appearance through horticultural arts. The project has the potential to grow and distribute thousands of pounds of produce annually. With local food banks and low-income individuals receiving the majority of the production, the project will provide nutritious, locally grown vegetables to people in need, while the remaining produce is donated to the Carson High School culinary program to ensure the culinary students have a steady source of seasonal vegetables year-round.
