Small Lake Tahoe business makes big with weekly 10 percent charitable donations
A little South Lake Tahoe hotel that’s stepping up in a big way by sharing 10 percent of its annual Monday profits to one charity, just extended the opportunity for more non-profit organizations to get involved, aiming to provide optimism and hope during the holidays.
As recently reported by the Associated Press, South Lake Tahoe-based Avalon Lodge, a 20-room boutique property launched “Make a Difference Mondays” to invite the public to nominate and select a non-profit beneficiary via a short five-question form at www.avalonlodge.com.
Avalon Lodge is among the small businesses that continue to make a major impact in their communities. Companies led by entrepreneurs allocate more than twice the percentage of profits to charity than many of America’s largest companies1.
“Like many entrepreneurs, we are personally invested in our businesses’ success, and we feel a responsibility to share that with communities,” said Deb Pierrel, co-owner of Clé Hospitality which owns Avalon Lodge.
In addition to receiving “Make a Difference Mondays” profits from Avalon Lodge for a year, the winning organization will also receive use of the hotel’s 20 rooms for two nights, April 29 and 30, 2013. The rooms can be awarded to friends, staff or volunteers, or can be auctioned to supporters with all additional income donated.
Based on historical experience estimates on a growing economy, Clé Hospitality estimates the total cash and in-kind donation in the $8,000 – $12,000 range.
Nominations are open for any non-profits with approved 501c3 standing. Persons can submit their favorite organization until Jan. 30, 2013. Each person can provide one entry by completing the short, basic registration form.
Pierrel and co-owner, Katy Donoghue will be personally involved in selecting the five finalists from the nominees. Public voting will be open from Feb. 20, 2013 through March 6, 2013 on the aforementioned website with the winning non-profit announced March 13.
The concept for “Make a Difference Mondays” is only part of their “Gratitude is Key” program and came easy for Pierrel and Donoghue, who started Clé Hospitality in 2010 in Mammoth, Calif.
The two started Clé Hospitality with a ten-year goal to build a portfolio of small to mid-size hotels in resort destinations each providing the founders’ definition of “casual elegance.” The Avalon Lodge features all the outdoor and indoor attractions that make Tahoe the “Best Lake in America” (USA TODAY, 2012). With completely remodeled rooms, contemporary amenities include luxurious beds with plush mattresses, triple-sheeted linens topped with overstuffed comforters in an Egyptian cotton cover. The bath is stocked with tasteful personal care products and oversized towels and attractive tile designs. Fireplaces add warmth and ambiance for all occasions.
“Gratitude is Key” is the overarching program for incentive-based initiatives, including “Key Rewards”wheremembers receive additional discounts, promotions and preview sales for events while “Key to Success” is a tactic for motivating employees.
