Please stop by if you're looking to add a new furry friend to your family. We will also have our Pups Up For Parole dogs that are looking for new homes. These dogs have been living at the Nevada State Prison undergoing obedience training to help them adapt more easily to their new homes.

Man arrested for breaking into Carson City apartment while drunk

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested Miguel Angel Sous-Andalon, 23, after he allegedly broke into an apartment in the 700 block of Hot Springs Road early Sunday morning and refused to leave.

According to the arrest report, Sous-Andalon was in a "highly intoxicated state" when he broke into the apartment, laid down on the resident's sofa and refused to leave.

NHP: 10-year-old boy dies in SUV rollover

A 10-year-old boy died from injuries sustained in a single vehicle rollover accident on Thursday eight miles south of Carson CIty in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports. The boy and the driver of the SUV were taken by Care Flight where the child later died of his injuries at a Reno hospital.

The boy, Felix Vargas, was in the SUV with seven others when it rolled over, with the boy being thrown from the vehicle, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez.

NHP: One dead in Highway 395 accident in Douglas County

One person died in an accident today three miles south of Gardnerville in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

An early investigation into the accident shows that the driver of a 2004 Ford F-150 was pulling a camper trailer and traveling in the southbound lane of Highway 395. For reasons that remain unclear the Ford, occupied by a 73-year-old male from California, drifted into the northbound travel lane and hit a commercial vehicle driven by a Wisconsin resident, said NHP Trooper Daniel Lopez.

Carson City Board of Supervisors approve sales tax incentives for area businesses

The Carson City Board of Supervisors voted to extend sales tax incentives to the Carson Mall, Carson Tahoe Quail Center and to the new events center project planned for the old Kmart building on the north side of town.

The board turned down a similar request for Carson Quail Park, due to it not meeting minimum space requirement.

The board also voted to approve funding for special election for Nevada congressional district 2.

NHP: Rig failed to stop safely in Highway 395 accident at Jacks Valley

A brief car chase through Carson City ended with the vehicle crashed and a woman, wanted on multiple warrants, arrested. The crash happened Wednesday in the area of Northridge and Roop streets in Carson City. Carson City authorities investigate accident; motorist reportedly drives through fence and hits four cars

UPDATED 3:40PM: Carson City authorities and the Nevada Highway Patrol have responded to an accident in the 3500 block of Highway 50 east that happened at 9:13 this morning where four parked vehicles were hit by a motorist.

The motorist was reportedly in cardiac arrest when police arrived and was transported to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez. NHP is investigating as to whether the man, described as elderly, had a medical condition which may have caused the accident.

NHP: Trooper sustains minor injuries after Carson City accident

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports the following regarding a patrol car that was hit in a Carson City traffic accident on Thursday night. A Carson City deputy was also injured in a second accident.

At about 8:09 Thursday night a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper drove up to a single vehicle accident in the southbound lane on Highway 395 at the off-ramp to Carson Street. The accident involved a red Oldsmobile driven by a Carson City resident, reports Trooper Dan Lopez.

Woman jailed for heroin possession and DUI after slamming car into Carson City deputy

A Carson City woman who injured a sheriff's deputy in an accident Thursday night faces a felony charge of possessing heroin and a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of drugs.

Cecilia Rose Norma Ristau, 19, was arrested at the Highway 395 bypass at Lakeview Hill after slamming her Saturn Ion into Carson City Sheriff's Deputy Dan Ochenschlager as he was putting flares on the road. Her bail has been set at $4,871. In a recorded interview, the woman admitted to having used heroin earlier Thursday night.

UPDATE 4:50PM: Carson City woman killed in accident on Highway 50 east of Dayton

A 21-year-old Carson City woman died this morning in a vehicle accident 10 miles east of Dayton on HIghway 50.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports that at 6:48 a.m., troopers were dispatched to the collision that involved a blue Honda two-door passenger vehicle and a red Ford Ranger pickup truck, said Trooper Michael Edgell. Alcohol may have played a factor in the accident, he said.

Obituary: Vivian M. Romero

December 4th 1921- December 2nd 2010

Vivian M. Romero completed her life journey December 2nd 2010, two days shy of her 89th birthday in Omaha, Nebraska surrounded by friends and family. Those who knew and loved her called her Viv. After the passing of her husband George in 2003, Viv left Carson City and returned to her childhood home of Omaha, Nebraska to be closer to family.

Several people at yesterday's Board of Supervisors meeting mentioned the generosity of Mae Adams for donating land to Carson City for the proposed Knowledge and Discovery Center and public plaza, the centerpiece of the City Center/Nugget Project.

I've heard some critics complain about this donation, which does little to bolster their case. Despite the unorthodox lease deal, it really is a donation we should be thankful to have the option of using for a new library.

But this donation does come with one very large and expensive string attached.

Carson City braces for fourth storm in series; NHP trooper injured in morning accident

A third punch of snow overnight in Carson City brought a few spinouts, minor accidents, downed power lines and traffic delays this morning. In one accident, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper sustained injuries after a car lost control and slid into his parked SUV.

“The Coalition is planting the seeds of hope that alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse prevention works, treatment is effective, and people do recover,” said McGill, who serves as director.

Dennis Oliver, public information officer for Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, dies

Dennis Oliver, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency's public information officer, has died after a brain illness. He was 47.

Oliver was admitted to the hospital about three weeks ago, according to TRPA External Affairs Director Julie Regan. He died overnight Wednesday at Carson Tahoe Hospital of an apparent brain virus which attacks the meylin around the nerve cells, said friend Michael Carr.

"TRPA is deeply saddened to share the news with the community of the loss of Dennis Oliver, who was an extremely valued employee of the Agency over the last three and a half years," said TRPA Executive Director Joanne Marchetta. Click here to read the obituary.
