Have A Heart fundraiser for Carson City area FISH a huge success

Thank you to everyone who made the Friends in Service Helping, 8th annual Have A Heart fundraiser a success. Due to the generosity and kind-heartedness of the community, this year was the most successful yet!

Volunteer scuba divers join with non-profits to clean trash from 72 miles of Lake Tahoe

In wake of the recent studies conducted by Desert Research Institute and UC Davis finding microplastics in Lake Tahoe, local 501(c)(3), "Clean up the Lake" in partnership with Tahoe Dive Center, have decided to speed up their announcement of their pre-existing plan to do a 72-mile underwater-scuba trash clean up of the entire shoreline of Lake Tahoe in Nevada and California.

Temporary Schedule for the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range begins Tuesday

CARSON CITY — In response to the seasonal transition affecting daylight hours, the Rifle and Pistol Range will temporarily change its hours to Tuesday through Friday, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting Sept. 10, 2019. Daylight hours are beginning to reflect the occurrence of seasonal change. To ensure adequate and safe accommodations for range enthusiasts the range must adopt the new operational hours.

Applications sought for person to serve on Carson City Airport Authority

The Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving on the Carson City Airport Authority. The Airport Authority is a 7 member board that oversees all matters pertaining to the Carson City airport.

Senator Square: Carson High School seniors rise with the sun

Watching them gather, wearing pajamas, wrapped in blankets, and celebrating the beginning of their senior year, the Class of 2019-2020 gathered together at 6:00 a.m. Aug. 30 on the bleachers of the Carson High School football field to watch the sun rise; it is the beginning of their last year at CHS, and, for some of them, their last year as students who were raised within the Carson City School District, students who went from kindergarten at Mark Twain Elementary to Carson Middle School and have spent the last three years at CHS.

Carson City student to refresh 'C' on C-Hill as part of Eagle Scout, senior projects

CARSON CITY — Gabe Crossman, a 17-year-old senior at Carson High School and member of Troop 45, will be refreshing the “C" on C-Hill for his Eagle Scout and senior class projects Saturday, September 7, at 7 a.m. Seniors from the Class of 2019 moved the rocks to form “TJ3" in memory of their classmate Timmy Jones.

Senator Square: First week of school a blast at Carson High School

Carson High School Principal Gavin Ward stood at the north entrance high-fiving students as they entered high school, some of them for the first time. In fact, counselors, teachers, and other administrators stood at each of the school entrances welcoming students to the best high school in the state, hyperbole aside.

Citizen Patrol Volunteer

The Douglas County Sheriff is looking for volunteers to join our friendly Citizen Patrol group who provides valuable services for the people of Douglas County. We provide VIN verifications for people bringing in vehicles from out of state; we do vacation checks for residents while they are traveling; we enforce handicap parking; and red tag and tow abandoned vehicles as needed. We also assist with traffic control whenever the Sheriff’s Department needs assistance and help with special events.

Dozens of local non-profit agencies gathered at Our Park in Dayton Saturday during the Our Town in Our Park event.

Non-profit groups including the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, Dayton Volunteer Fire Department, JOIN INC, Dayton Valley Dog Park and the Historical Society of Dayton teamed-up to promote wellness, services and career opportunities to the community.

Third annual summer event for Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada hosted in Genoa

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada hosts the third annual Summer Soiree fundraiser to help build a clubhouse for Carson Valley members, Sunday, Aug. 11, at 4 p.m. in Genoa.

Currently, the Club activities are hosted at Pau Wa Lu Middle School, but due to school events and availability of classrooms, there are many limitations to what the Club can provide to the youth of Carson Valley without having its own location.

UPDATE: There's a star party late Monday night into Tuesday morning hosted by Carson City Parks and Recreation and Open Space. For summer’s most visible meteor showers, join the Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space Department at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory for some late night, educational fun. No pre-registration necessary. Please wear close-toed shoes and bring water for night hiking from the Observatory. Head lamps and flashlights are allowed. This upcoming Monday is the Aquariids Viewing Party starting at 12:00 a.m. Tuesday (technically Monday night).

Heading into Monday, July 29, 2019 and we're wondering how the month went by so quickly. Again we're looking at a fairly typical end of July day weather wise, with sunny skies and a high around 94. Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Receives Generous Donation from Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church

Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church in Carson City donated proceeds raised from community rummage sale to Carson City Search and Rescue to support the replacement of an aging search and rescue vehicle. A generous donation in the amount of $3,147.25 was presented on July 24, which will join funds already raised for the vehicle purchase.

Carson City veteran transportation service expands with sheriff's office VIP's for Vets van

A service of the Carson City Sheriff's Office Volunteers in Partnership Program, called "VIPS for Vets" now has more transportation availability for local veterans after recently acquiring a van from the state of Nevada.
