Carson City heroes save Christmas

Question: What do Santa, a clown, a platoon of police officers, and coffee have in common?

Answer: They were all at the Wal-Mart service center Friday morning.

The second day of the seventh-annual Holiday With a Hero shopping spree event kicked off at 9 a.m., with the volunteers being fed donuts and coffee. Santa and his Wal-Mart helpers stood prepped to welcome less-fortunate children and help pair them off with volunteers, who would help them spend their complimentary Wal-Mart gift cards.

Holiday With a Hero, Day 1

Sheriff's officers, state troopers, National Guardsmen, and a plethora of other volunteers - and their charges - middle and high school students in need of a Christmas - converged at Wal-Mart at 9 p.m. Wednesday morning for the annual Holiday with a Hero event.

With 280 low-income students to help, this year's shopping spree had to be broken up into two groups - one of middle and high school students, and one of elementary school students - spread out over two days.

A video shot by Casino Fandango security captures IHOP gunman Eduardo Sencion firing his assault weapon in the parking lot. (See below)

The video reportedly shows Sencion exiting the restaurant after shooting the victims inside, and then shows him shooting B.J. Lejon, 67, who was standing near a motorcycle in the parking lot. Fortunately, the helmet she was wearing saved her life, according to Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong.

Lejon is seen trying to duck behind the motorcycle, but Sencion sees her. She said she begged him not to shoot her, to no avail. She is still recovering from her wounds.

Her husband, who was inside the restaurant but not wounded, didn't find out about his wife being shot until eight hours later because of all the chaos at the scene.
