Carson City Medical Reserve Corps Needs YOU!

Carson City Health and Human Services is recruiting additional volunteers for the Carson City Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) with a informational reception on Tuesday, June 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Artisan Cafe inside the Brewery Arts Center. Medical as well as non-medical volunteers are needed. In case of a local emergency such as flood, fire or disease outbreak, response teams are necessary to assist local fire, sheriff, and medical personnel. By becoming a member of the MRC, volunteers are vetted and trained in advance to assist when help is needed.

Carson City Freeway project awarded for archeological efforts

The Nevada Department of Transportation has received an award for archeological preservation of the Old Stewart Indian Cemetery. 
An Exemplary Human Environment Initiative award to NDOT was presented by the Federal Highway Administration for partnering efforts to enhance and preserve the historic cemetery as part of the Carson City Freeway project.

Lake Tahoe's McCall Realty to donate all 2010 profits to nonprofit children's programs

Lake Tahoe-based McCall Realty (www.mccalltahoe.com) will donate all its profits through 2010 to five area children’s non-profit organizations: Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), South Lake Tahoe Police Activities League (PAL), South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center, and Tahoe Youth and Family Services.

Carson City Clean Up

The 3rd annual "Carson City Clean Up" sponsered by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce took place on Saturday April 10th. There was a good turn out of volunteers for the annual event, JC Pennys and the Casino Fandago being were well represeted. Rob Joiner, candidate for City Supervisor in Ward 1, was also on hand with a few of his crew trying to make the highway 50 interchange a little less of an eye sore.
The Chamber's Executive Director, Ronni Hannaman, welcomed everyone who attended and had the Chamber supply coffee, water, safety vests and hats.

Nevada Group Urges New Tax on Car Miles to Fund Road Improvements

CARSON CITY – The Nevada Highway Users Coalition has announced its support for moving forward with a study on Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) as a potential alternative to the current gas tax paid by motorists at the pump to fund road improvements and maintenance.
According to those involved in the study, the consequences of inaction could include the deterioration of roads and highways, increased vehicle wear and tear, increased congestion and accidents and longer commute times.

Carson City Clean Up

The annual Carson City Clean Up will be on Saturday, April 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Volunteers will be cleaning at the Carson City Freeway and US-50 East Interchange.
Volunteers are encouraged and needed. Meet at the Gold Dust West, Lower East Parking lot, 2171 U.S. 50, Carson City.
