Open Letter to Rep. Amodei: Border bill?

Dear Rep Amodei, While we were originally encouraged with the first paragraph of your email (Amodei Report: Shutdown Deja Vu – 1-19-24), it became apparent that you were blaming Democrats for the impending shutdown. And once again, we found your reasoning to be less than satisfactory.
To be as clear as possible, your reference to H.R. 2 as the magic solution to our budget impasse seemed to be one more attempt at deflection to an extremist solution from your favorite extremist, Marjorie Taylor Greene. How does she keep coming up in your solutions?
We don't need 2,000 miles of border fence, especially since history has show fences don't work. We don't need to militarize the southern border. We don't need to lock out all asylum seekers.
The solutions promoted by H.R. 2 are not consistent with American values, and yet you and your party are sticking with this as the only solution. The people of Northern Nevada don't want to be associated with cruel and inhumane treatment of people fleeing oppression.
That's not who we are. There are many other paths that could be taken, including the proposed Senate Bill from December that would have authorized an additional 14 Billion dollars to bolster those who are trained to deal
with migrants (Border Patrol), hire more judges to hear asylum cases, and improve security to stop the flow of illegal drugs and gang members. But apparently, that's not good enough for House Republicans.
Why is your party so intent on closing our Southern Border?
What part of “victims” have you chosen to ignore? Asylum seekers aren't looking for “free”, they're looking for opportunities to escape oppression. Speaking of oppression, why have you tied closing the border to helping Ukraine fight Putin? The more rhetoric we hear from Republican leaders, the more it seems like you and your party want Putin to defeat Ukraine. That's not an American value either, and could ultimately lead to our own boots on the ground because Putin won't stop at Ukraine!
The icing on the cake seems to be you and your party having constant investigations. First it was Hunter Biden, someone who's not an elected official facing many accusations, but no real facts.
And we are currently watching the spectacle of you and other House Republicans trying to impeach Secretary Mayorkas. Seriously? We're staring at a government shutdown instigated by you and your party, and rather than work honestly at trying to prevent it, you folks are putting on a farce for the MAGA base.
We deserve better.
