Open Letter to Rep. Amodei from Rural Nevada Democrats

Dear Rep Amodei,
Your last few emails have become even more concerning for the people of CD2.
First, HR 4365. You actually signed off on this? President Biden has already stated he's going to VETO this bill, so why waste everyone's time? You have gone along with several cuts that have folks scratching their heads and asking “why?”

Things like cutting over $1 Billion dollars worth of civilian employees from the Defense Bill. What does this accomplish, especially in a time where the military is having difficulties reaching their recruiting goals? Can you explain?

Then there's only increasing the budget by 3.5%, which is below what had been negotiated and agreed upon by the previous House Speaker. We don't feel this makes the House look like it can be trusted going back after the Speaker had given his word. Please remember, this was previously negotiated because the House was willing to let the US go into default on its debt (which will be exacerbated by cutting the IRS). How does this help maintain our military readiness?

Then there's the salary cuts. Rep MT Greene seems to really be the star right now, since you voted for her amendments to cut the salaries of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to $1. That's it. One whole dollar. Strange that this happens to a black man and an openly gay man. Thankfully the move to do the same to WH Press Secretary failed, or you would have had a “trifecta”.

Furthermore there's that whole ugly Censure issue. Your friend and colleague Marjory Taylor Greene had her censure moment in the past, and you claimed you didn't support it because the Republican members hadn't had a chance to “deal with” her issues. But you had no problem voting for the censure of Rep Tlaib from Michigan. Meanwhile, your Conference has yet to deal with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Now to be clear, we're not supporting either representatives statements, only pointing out your hypocrisy once again. Someone from your party gets a pass, but someone from the other side of the aisle is to be held to a much different standard.

And lets not forget your apparent support of the impeachment inquiry. So far, the only thing that's been proven is that President Joe Biden cared about his family enough to loan his brother money when he needed it. When his brother paid him back, which is what people usually do, it suddenly becomes something suspicious and "nefarious" to the twisted perspective of the G.O.P.

And lets not forget Rep Greene in all of this. Instead of looking for truth and exposing that, she decided it was better to expose Hunter Biden to the House and American people. I thought you folks didn't allow porn on the House floor?

All these “investigations” are truly nothing more than distractions, redirecting the attention of the American public from what's really happening in the House. If that weren't the case, then why hasn't Rep Jordan been asked about his loan of $200,000 to his brother? Or why Rep. Jordan did not report sexual abuse of the team doctor to the authorities while coaching wrestling and was aware of it according to a lawsuit brought by former college students When will that inquiry begin Rep. Amodei? Fair is fair, right? Especially in light of such serious charges. Or is this another showing of partisanship?

The only other thing the impeachment inquiry has shown is that President Biden was engaged with his family when he was not the President or Vice President. When did good behavior become impeachable?

Additionally, your attacks on what's happening at our Southern Border are not reality. Not what the Governors of Texas and Florida have done to relocate asylum seekers (possibly against their will, which should face it's own investigation for human rights abuses), but the fact that previous policies from the previous Trump administration are so terrible that people are willing to risk everything to get away from the hardship that Trump created .We would like to strongly remind you, the phrase “catch and release” should not be applied to people. They are human beings, not fish!

There is no “open border” unless you're listening to folks on the far right. Are you now on the far right? We ask because you ran as a moderate, but your talking points and positions are anything but moderate.

Oh, and lest we forget, that aid package for Israel you and the new Speaker are so proud of? The aid package meant to help Israel and cripple the IRS at the same time? The funding that's supposed to keep the agency functioning? The agency that's currently going after the wealthy tax cheats? Not sure how that could be offensive to anyone, especially someone who is charged with serving the people of Nevada.  Did we mention that proposed legislation will cost the taxpayers $20 Billion? "Brother can you spare a dime"?

Who knew partisanship could be so expensive? Apparently the CBO, but, hey, apparently, details aren't important to you or your Republican colleagues. If the "Devil is in the details", then it appears the Devil is working for the Congressional Budget Office; a Devil that is sure to haunt us in the coming days.

And finally, about the new House Speaker and the whole Speaker debacle. First you voted for Jim Jordan, a man who by all accounts has no legislation to his name, and no goal other than an extreme partisan Congress. And now our current speaker, Mike Johnson who has decided that the US should now become a theocracy? Lest we forget his antipathy towards abortion, you apparently need to be reminded that the voters of Nevada, all the way back in 1990, voted to allow abortion up to 24 weeks. Now you wish to undo that? And we must ask this question since you wholeheartedly supported the nomination and election of Mr Johnson when it became apparent that Mr. Jordan  wouldn't make it.

So after working through this short list, we have to ask once again, who are you Representative Amodei? Are you the moderate you campaigned as for reelection, or the far right supporter your voting record and emails portray? Your constituents in Nevada's Congressional District 2 need to know while considering your current status and political future.

Respectfully,
