Carson City man arrested for domestic battery, baby and mother bruised after being hit with pillow

A Carson City man was arrested and faces charges including domestic battery and gross misdemeanor child abuse after using a pillow to repeatedly beat on his girlfriend in which their baby also sustained a bruise to the face, authorities said.

Miguel Angel Paredes, 23, was arrested at 4:08 a.m. Saturday in the 2000 block of Lone Mountain Drive. He faces a gross misdemeanor charge of abuse or neglect of a child, two misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and a misdemeanor charge of obstructing an officer.

According to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the Lone Mountain Drive residence in reference to a domestic battery. The victim advised the father of her baby had hit her repeatedly.

The victim told officers the man came home intoxicated, and told her he had spent all of their money, the arrest report states. The couple began to argue, when the man grabbed the victim by the arm, twisting it, the arrest report states. The woman broke free by elbowing him. She then went to cradle her baby and the man charged her again.

The victim told officers the man then began to hit her with a pillow, approximately 20 times, telling her that he used the pillow instead of his fists so that it wouldn't leave marks, the arrest report states.

As he was striking her, he also struck the baby in the face, presumably with the same pillow, which caused a bruise to the baby's face, the arrest report states.

The woman ran out of the home with the baby. Paredes then began to punch the ground and his face, the arrest report states. Officers observed bruising on the woman's right arm, wrist and her face was swollen, as if she had been hit repeatedly with a firm pillow. Carson City Fire Department responded to evaluate the baby for injuries. Photos were taken of the victims.

Officers found Paredes sitting on a curb, with blood coming from both hands after punching the ground, and blood from his face where he had punched himself in the face, the arrest report states.

He refused to listen to instructions and began flinging blood from his head at the officers, the arrest report states. He was told several times to stop and had to be placed in restraints. He was taken to the hospital for his injuries and then booked into jail. Bail: $9,081.

The woman told officers she feared for her safety and said she would get a restraining order.
