Saturday, November 9
— Nevada Humane Society in Carson City to waive adoption fees for cats, kittens this weekend (all day). 549 Airport Rd. Are you looking for a cat? What a coincidence: we have about 400 cats here at our shelter who are looking for you! To help our cats find homes, we are waiving the adoption fees on all cats and kittens at the shelters in Carson City and Reno this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 8-10.When our shelter becomes full, it limits our ability to help other cats in need throughout Nevada. This means, we need you. But more importantly, our cats need you.
— Second Saturday easy hike on the Turkey Trot Path. 8:30 a.m. at Governor's Mansion, 606 N. Mountain Street. Come join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride around Carson City!
— Holiday Bazaar . 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 314 N. Division Street. St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, on the corner of Division and Telegraph streets Carson City, will be hosting their annual Holiday Bazaar starting at 8:30 A.M. Saturday, November 9, 2019.
— Young at Heart annual Holiday Craft Fair. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo Ln. in Gardnerville. This event has grown over the years and this year is the biggest ever. All proceeds from the Holiday Craft Fair benefits the seniors/senior center here in Douglas County.
— Second annual Christ is Christmas Fair. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sierra Lutheran High School. Sierra Lutheran High School will host the 2nd Annual Christ IS Christmas Craft Fair November 9-10 in the Norm Brauer Gymnasium from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A wide variety of over 40 vendors offering everything from handmade Christmas decorations and gifts, to food samples, to art and jewelry booths and much more will be on display throughout the weekend.
— Paper Poppies for Veterans at Nevada State Museum. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Handcrafting of paper poppies to honor veterans. The Nevada State Museum is located at 600 North Carson Street.
— Guided tours of the Nevada State Capitol. Two separate tours will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. every Saturday in Carson City. Tours typically take an hour and include both the exterior of the building, nearby memorials as well as the interior of the building. Tours are available for up to 20 people on a first-come, first-served basis. The building includes numerous historic artifacts that range from portraits of past Nevada governors to sculptures to historical items showcased during Nevada’s Sesquicentennial celebration. The Capitol remains open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Guided tours of up to 20 people can be arranged in advance by calling the Nevada State Museum’s Education Program at 775-687-4810, ext. 237.
— Carson City's Proscenium Players to hold auditions for female version of 'The Odd Couple'. 1 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King Street. Unger and Madison are at it again! Florence Unger and Olive Madison, that is, in Neil Simon's hilarious contemporary comic classic: the female version of The Odd Couple. Instead of the poker party that begins the original version, Ms. Madison has invited the girls over for an evening of Trivial Pursuit.
— Imaginations Children's Art Class in Virginia City. 1 to 3 p.m. at 55 North R Street. Kids will learn the fun of watercolor and multiple techniques with everyone's favorite art instructor, Emily Reid. Discounts for advance, local, and multiple registrations.
— Saturday Beginning Wheel Throwing at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 1 to 4 p.m. at 1215 S. Carson Street.. The Ogres of Ogres-Holm introduce you to clay in this 6-week open start class, including open studio time, is designed to get you started. It’s a great way to relax on a Saturday afternoon. $175 for 6 week session or $45 drop ins.
— Lego Club at the Carson City Library. 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at 900 N. Roop Street. Build self-led creations through hands-on learning with LEGO Education materials. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times.
— Carson Mall Wine Walk. 2 to 6 p.m. at 1227 S. Carson Street. Come sip and shop at the Carson Mall! New walkers $10, returning walkers $5. You will receive a wine glass which is yours to keep! Stores will have wine for you to taste while you browse the mall. 21 and over, ID's will be checked. For more information call 775-671-8150.
— Western Nevada Theatre Company presents: Matilda, The Musical. 2 to 9:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street. The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company is bringing the internationally acclaimed, high-energy, magical “Matilda the Musical” to Nevada for the very first time! Based on the Roald Dahl classic novel, the award-winning musical tells of a gifted young girl who develops telekinetic powers to help her overcome the wicked headmistress, Agatha Trunchbull, and save her abused teacher and classmates. A cast of extraordinary performers rocks an exhilarating score with powerful dance numbers and broad comedy.
— Murder at the Sock Hop. 5 p.m. at the Gorvernor’s Mansion, 606 Mountain St. Carson Tahoe Health Auxiliary is presenting "Murder at the Sock Hop.” The program includes buffet dinner, interactive show, no host bar, and raffles. Doors open at 4:30PM with the show starting at 5:00PM and buffet dinner at 6:00PM. Tickets cost $60 per person.
— Meet the Brewer: Lead Dog Brewing Co.. 5 to 7 p.m. at Rue Bourbon, 1401 S. Virginia Street in Reno. Meet Lead Dog’s head brewer and taste his favorite beers! Your ticket also enters you into a raffle to win cool Lead Dog swag and Rue Bourbon gift cards.
— Curvy Queen Pageant. 6 to 10 p.m. at the Carson Valley Inn Casino, 1627 U.S. Hwy 395 N. Miden. Join us as we prepare to crown the first Curvy Queen and Curvy Queen Elite! There will be entertainment and raffle, and visiting queens. Come support your favorite contestant.
— Live music at Glen Eagles Restaurant. 6:30 to 9 p.m. at 3700 N. Carson St. Enjoy live music that is sure to make you get up and dance every Wednesday through Saturday starting at 6:30 to 9:00ish.
— Saturday Night Star Party at Western Nevada College. 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Jack C. Davis Observatory, 2699 Vanpatten Ave. The Jack C Davis Observatory hosts free star parties on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month year round, starting at 7:30 p.m. (except when there is snow on the roads). The evening starts with a lecture on one of numerous topics and concludes with guided star viewing by one of our astronomers. Mike Thomas lectures 2nd Saturdays and Dr. Tom Herring lectures on 4th Saturdays.
— Carson Comedy Club at the Carson Nugget. 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Carson Nugget, 507 N. Carson Street. Live Comedy every Friday and Saturday night at the Carson Nugget! Doors open at 7:15 p.m. Purchase tickets at the Winner's Club or online. Food specials, comedy shows offered free to veterans by Carson Nugget. Veterans who sign up for Veterans Club will receive two free tickets to comedian Rob Sherwood, with shows Saturday night.
— Trippin' King Snakes at Living the Good Life. 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. at 1480 N. Carson Street. Come out and enjoy some live music with Trippin’ King Snakes.
Sunday, November 10
— The United States Marine Corps celebrates its Birthday on Sunday. The U.S. Marine Corps was formed as a security force of sorts, serving as an infantry unit aboard naval vessels and was responsible for protecting the ship's officers. Sometimes this was evident with the Marine's quarters positioned between the Officer's quarters and the rest of the ship - to serve as a buffer between them and the rest of the crew.

— Edible Art with Chef Pete in Virginia City. 1 to 3 p.m. at St. Mary’s Art Center, 55 North R Street. Learn the art of creating delicious desserts fit for the upcoming holiday celebrations. Executive Pastry Chef Pete Paulos teaches students how to create beautiful and heartwarming poached pear tarts. Students get to take home their own creations to share (or not) during the holiday season.
— Dayton Chamber Veterans Appreciation Dinner features former Senator Dean Heller. 5 p.m. at the Dayton Valley Golf Club, 101 Palmer Dr. Mike Kunz and Stephen Hipp, co-chairmen of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce Veterans Dinner and members of the chamber board of directors, announced today that former United States Senator Dean Heller will be the featured speaker at the Chamber's third annual Veterans Dinner.
Monday, November 11 (Veterans Day)
Casino Fandango in Carson City offers a free buffet on Monday for veterans and active duty military. The buffet runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Grand Ballroom. Go here for more information.
— Free breakfast for veterans by Carson Nugget. Veterans who sign up for Veterans Club one free American breakfast at the Eatery on Veteran's Day between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sign up and receive vouchers at the casino's Winner's Club.
— Veterans Day ceremony and pinning at The Lodge Assisted Living and Memory Care in Carson City. 11 a.m. to noon. Pinning ceremony with Douglas High School JROTC. 2200 East Long Street, Carson City. Go here for more information.
— The Fox Brewpub in Carson City offers veterans a free burger and beer on the house, al day Veterans Day. Members of the military are asked to present to their server their military ID, veterans hat, or proof of enlistment in the U.S. Armed Forces. Go here for more information.
— Free Spaghetti Lunch for Veterans and Active Military at the Carson Valley Inn, Minden. Free spaghetti lunch for all veterans and active military – plus one guest – on Monday in the Valley Ballroom from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Veterans and active military personnel simply present your military ID for entrance and lunch for you and your guest is on the Carson Valley Inn. There will be a Veterans Day Parade in Reno along Virginia Street, Monday, Nov. 11, from 11 a.m. to noon. In northern Nevada, Reno is hosting its annual Veterans Day Parade on November 11, 2019. This year’s theme commemorates the centennial of Veterans Day, formally Armistice Day. NDVS will be participating in the parade again this year. Come and join us!
Sparks
There will be a Veterans Day ceremony and Imo Jima Reenactment at the Sparks Marina on Monday morning. Please join us on November 11, 2019 as we celebrate Veterans Day with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Nevada Veterans Memorial Plaza and Iwo Jima reenactment. American Legion Post 795 hosts Veterans Day ceremony.
American Legion Post 795 of South Lake Tahoe invites residents and visitors to join members of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion in honoring all veterans this Veterans Day. The Veterans Day ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, at the American Legion Hall, 2748 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe. Light refreshments will be served.
Formerly Armistice Day, November 11 commemorates the anniversary of the peace agreement that ended World War I in 1918. It is historically significant that this day continue to be observed on the eleventh hour of the eleventh month of the eleventh day to commemorate when the guns fell silent at 11 a.m. on November 11, 1918.
